Who is Gladiola?
There is a family story about our teenage Mom in the 1930’s. According to her, a gentleman asked her out on a date and she did not like him. So when he asked her name she said it was “Gladiola Schimmilweiner.” (He became a multi-millionaire!)
Over the years. “Gladiola” has become Mom’s legacy – an endearing term synonymous with humor and strength.
And although we are honoring her here by using her name, in real life I am a retired Educator and Consultant. I have been blessed with a successful career, authored a number of publications, and even now continue to make contributions through an online community. Yet, even with all that success, nothing has prepared me for the challenges of widowhood and old age.
So it is with some insight that I write these words, hoping that you will find comfort in the realization that you are not alone. And although the Brother’s story is different from mine, we find ourselves at the same fork in the road.
Which brings us to this next season as we chronicle the hilarity, help, and hurdles of old age.
